PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor device in which heat generated by a heater can be supplied to an optical waveguide layer efficiently. SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor device (100) comprises a semiconductor substrate (101), a striped semiconductor region (102) demarcated with a top surface and a side surface thereof, and a heater (104). The semiconductor substrate has a width greater than the width of the semiconductor region. The semiconductor region is provided with an optical waveguide layer (106). The heater is provided above the optical waveguide layer.
