PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mold powder reducing the development of crack flaw and depression in a cast slab in a continuous casting of a Pb-containing steel and a method for continuously casting the Pb-containing steel using the mold powder. SOLUTION: The mold powder for continuously casting the Pb-containing steel having 0.01-0.40 mass% Pb content in the molten steel is composed of oxide-based compound or fluoride-based compound of Si, Al, Ca, Mg, Na and Li, and contained as carbonates composed of Na<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Li<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and CaCO<SB>3</SB>in the raw material, and the mold powder restrained to <0.2 mass% total content of these carbonates is used to continuously cast the Pb-containing steel.
