An electronic control unit of a vehicle having a program upgrade function and an operation method thereof are provided to stop a cooling fan while program of the electronic control device is upgraded. An electronic control unit(ECU) of a vehicle includes a flash ROM(30) and a RAM(35) in a CPU. The flash ROM includes a re-program code(31) and a PWM cooling fan stop duty code(32). The re-program code is an algorithm code which erases all data codes of the flash ROM when program upgrade is performed and writes newly upgraded data codes in the flash ROM. The PWM cooling fan stop duty code outputs a duty signal for stopping a cooling fan of the vehicle. In the program upgrade mode, the re-program code and the PWM cooling fan stop duty code are copied and stored in the RAM. |
