PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a shape drawing from a group of measurement values obtained by distance sensors, the shape drawing being equal to a shape drawing used in a design drawing and obtained by cutting a wheel by a straight line including its center. SOLUTION: This railroad vehicle running wheel measuring instrument includes the distance sensors 1a and 1b installed outside and inside, respectively, of a rail 11 for measuring the distance to an outside flange surface of the wheel 100 of a vehicle 10 and that to an inside back surface thereof in a non-contacting manner to severally output the results of measurement, and a processing part 7 for calculating the shape of the wheel from the results of measurement by the two distance sensors and from data on distances related to the installation of the two distance sensors. The processing part 7 acquires the length size of the wheel in the running direction of the vehicle and a distance size from the shaft center of the wheel to convert the length size of the wheel in the running direction into the radial length of the wheel based on the two sizes, thereby acquiring the shape drawing equal to a shape drawing used in a design drawing and obtained by cutting a wheel by a straight line including its center.
