PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass plate polishing method and device therefor equipped with good efficiency and assuring an always constant finish quality of polishing. SOLUTION: A plurality of polishing boards rotating horizontally are installed in line, and a trolley 10 is run over them which is set on a runner rail 7 of a track support 9 extending in the horizontal direction in a such form as a circular arc and in an endless loop, whereby an upper surface plate 18 having sucked fast a glass plate is transported and stopped in the part over the polishing boards, and in the condition the trolley is stopped, the upper surface plate is sunk onto the polishing boards and put in pressure contact with the boards in rotation, while the upper surface plate is reciprocated in the horizontal direction, for polishing the abutting surface of the glass plate with the polishing boards by means of rotation of the polishing boards, the horizontal reciprocation of the upper surface plate, and a descending pressurization. After a certain time of polishing, the upper surface plate is raised, transported by running the trolley, and stopped in the part over the polishing boards, and the upper surface plate is moved bit by bit to over the polishing boards positioned in line by repeating the same procedure so as to accomplish the polishing of the glass plate.
