METHOD OF MANUFACTURING METALLIC FOAM BASED HEAT EXCHANGER

<p>A method of manufacturing a metallic foam based heat exchanger (30) includes positioning an aluminum foam block (32) within a first housing portion (33) defining a first fluid passage (40), and placing the block (32) in contact with a portion (34) of the housing defining at least one other fluid passage (50), the housing portion (34) being an extrusion (34). A brazing flux material and a brazing filler are applied to at least one of the foam (32) and the extrusion (34), the foam (32) being thermally coupled to the extrusion (34) with the brazing filler. A heat exchanger (30) includes a housing (33, 34) having a fluid passage (40) with a metallic foam (32) such as an aluminum foam (32) therein. The metallic foam (32) is attached to a metallic extrusion (34) via a thermally conducting brazing filler. A method of cooling oil in an internal combustion engine (12) is further provided.</p>
