A lithium rechargeable battery is provided to inhibit a safety vent or cap assembly from coming into contact with the inner periphery of a can even when a gasket is broken, thereby preventing a short circuit. A lithium rechargeable battery(200) includes an electrode assembly(205), a can(240) for accommodating the electrode assembly, and a cap assembly(280) which has a safety vent(261) and seals an upper opening of the can. An insulating part(263) made of an insulating material is formed along the edge of the safety vent. The insulating part is made of an elastic material. The insulating part is formed on the bottom and side of the safety vent. |
