PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging apparatus capable of obtaining an image of high picture quality by preventing smear mixture in a monitor mode for thinning pixels in vertical and horizontal directions. SOLUTION: In the solid state imaging apparatus, transfer electrodes in a vertical transfer part 13 are constituted so that electrode groups of six phases are repeated, a vertical final stage 21 has the same transfer electrode constitution in each three rows, and the third phase electrodes (V3B, V3R, V3L) and the fifth phase electrodes (V5B, V5R, V5L) can be driven independently of the other electrodes. In the case of transferring electric charge from the vertical transfer part 13 to a horizontal transfer part 14, the third phase electrodes and the fifth phase electrodes in the vertical final stage 21 are driven, different charge transfer operation is performed in each row and transfer operations of the first and second steps in the horizontal transfer part 14 are combined to separate a signal component from a smear component in the horizontal transfer part 14.
