PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing material excellent in sustainability of its polishing ability, wide in usable temperature range, and causing neither oxidation nor corrosion of a to-be-polished material. SOLUTION: The polishing material comprises a core material 1 made of gelatin gel obtained by dissolving gelatin in a polyhydric alcohol and abrasive grains 2 dispersedly stuck on the surface of the core material 1. Another version of this polishing material comprises the above core material, abrasive grain layer formed on the surface of the core material, and abrasive grains dispersedly stuck on the surface of the abrasive grain layer, wherein the abrasive grain layer is such that abrasive grains are dispersedly included in gelatin gel obtained by dissolving gelatin in the polyhydric alcohol.
