PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron transport material contributing to extension of the life of an organic electroluminescence element, and to provide an electroluminescence element utilizing the electron transport material. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the compound represented by formula (1), and to the organic EL element using the compound. In the formula, G is a linking group with n valency excluding single bond, n is an integer of 2-4; R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a H, a mono valent group or a free atomic valence linking to G, R<SP>5</SP>-R<SP>8</SP>are each independently a H or a mono valent group, one of R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP>is a group with free atomic valence linking to G; and n 3, 2'-bipyridyl groups are the same or different.
