PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for discriminating the species of bats from the ultrasonic wave signals by receiving the ultrasonic wave signals of complicated patterns of frequency band width which is emitted by the bat. SOLUTION: The device comprises the ultrasonic wave receiver 2 for receiving the ultrasonic wave emitted by the bat 1, the ultrasonic wave signal analyzer 3 for analyzing the signal from the ultrasonic wave receiver 2 and discriminating the bat species from the analysis result. The ultrasonic wave signal analyzer 3 is characterized by discriminating the bat species by using information at least one of an upper limit frequency, a lower limit frequency and an energy peak frequency of the ultrasonic frequency emitted by the bat.
