PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photometric instrument capable of reducing the number of required components, capable of automatically setting an optimum amplification factor, and capable of performing high-precision measurement, and to provide a measuring method in the photometric instrument. SOLUTION: The photometric instrument is provided with a photodetector, a signal amplification portion for amplifying a measurement signal outputted from the photodetector, and a control operation portion 7. The operation portion 7 is provided with a temporary measurement value acquisition means 71, a regular measurement value acquisition means 72, and a measured value calculation means 73. The temporary means 71 sets the amplification factor of the signal amplification portion to an amplification factor for temporary measurement, to perform temporary measurement. The regular means 72 sets the amplification factor of the signal amplification portion to an optimum amplification factor corresponding to a temporary measurement quantization value acquired by the temporary measurement value acquisition means, to perform measurement. The calculation means 73 calculates a measured value by a regular measurement quantization value acquired by the regular measurement value acquisition means, and a coefficient computed from the optimum amplification factor.
