PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic faucet enabling a large hand-washing space. SOLUTION: The automatic faucet 1, 51 or 61 has a spout part 2 comprising a base part 2a, and an extended part 2b extending forward from the upper end of the base part and comprising a water discharge port 4 at the tip, and formed with a water discharge passage 34 therein; a sensor device 6 mounted in the base part of the spout part to detect a user's hand; and water discharging means 10, 12 discharging water from the water discharge port when the sensor device detects the user's hand. The sensor device 6 comprises a light transmitting plate mounted to the front face of the base part of the spout part; a photoelectric sensor 24 facing the light transmitting plate and comprising a light projecting element 24a and a light receiving element 24b arranged so that the perpendicular of light projecting and receiving faces points obliquely downward; and a shading part 26 provided between the light transmitting plate and and light projecting and receiving faces of the photoelectric sensor so that its front face abuts on the light transmitting plate and that its rear face abuts on the light projecting and receiving faces of the photoelectric sensor, and formed with through holes 26a, 26b through which light projected and received by the light projecting element and light receiving element can pass.
