PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network connection type storage device having the functions of both an iSCSI device and a NAS device for automatically executing the initialization of the device only by connecting to a network, and performing access from a host without manually initializing the device prior to use when a user wants to use all the disks as the function of either the iSCSI device or the NAS device. SOLUTION: This storage device is provided with an initialization executing means for allowing access from all hosts to a storage device as the initial status of a storage device in factory shipping, and for automatically executing the initialization of the storage device according to the type of initial network access to the storage device. Thus, it is possible to execute the initialization of the device suitable for the iSCSI device or the NAS device as the function of the storage device by the initialization executing means.
