PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer which can be used even when supplying of power from a commercial power source is impossible or a residual capacity of a battery is insufficient. SOLUTION: This tape printer 1 comprises a power source terminal 51 connectable to a plug of an AC adapter 61, a battery terminal 52 connectable to plus/minus electrodes of a secondary battery 62, and a solar battery 13 for generating power by receiving a light. A control section 30 controls a second power source selection section 56 such that the power is supplied from the AC adapter 61 (the commercial power source) or the secondary battery 62 when a printing operation or a cutting operation using a head drive section 42, a conveyance drive section 43, and a cutting drive section 44 is carried out, and the power is supplied from the solar battery 13 when the other operation such as an initializing operation after a turning-on operation, an input operation using a keyboard 11 or a touch panel 14, or a displaying operation by a display drive section 41 is carried out.
