An agent for suppressing arteriosclerosis containing an extract of a plant belonging to the Chenopodiaceae family as an active ingredient and having an antagonistic action against lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor (LOX-1), the agent for suppressing arteriosclerosis having a suppressing action of oxidized LDL uptake into a cell via a scavenger receptor other than LOX-1, a food composition containing the agent for suppressing arteriosclerosis and a pharmaceutical composition containing the agent for suppressing arteriosclerosis. The invention provides the agent for suppressing arteriosclerosis which inhibits the binding of oxidized LDL to LOX-1 expressed in a vascular endothelial cell, macrophage or the like, has the antagonistic action having an ability to suppress oxidized LDL uptake into the cell via LOX-1 and is highly safe and the food or pharmaceutical composition containing the same.
