In a method for determining the separation between an object and a frequency-modulated radar wave (FMCW) radar distance sensor by comparing emitted and received signals, the emitted signal frequency (f(t)) is (a) modulated in several successive cycles of specific duration (T(MZ)) between specific upper and lower values and (b) held at a specific constant value in a modulation pause of specific, pseudo-random or data bank-derived duration (T(MP)) between modulation cycles.
