摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce both particulate and NO<SB>x</SB>, even in a vehicle of operation form in which an operational status of low exhaust temperature is continued for a long time. <P>SOLUTION: An oxidation catalyst 16 is installed in a front stage of a particulate filter 11 disposed along an exhaust pipe 9, and a NO<SB>x</SB>adsorption catalyst 17 is disposed in a front stage of the oxidation catalyst 16. The NO<SB>x</SB>adsorption catalyst simultaneously adsorbs NO<SB>x</SB>in exhaust gas 7 and carbon hydride under a low exhaust temperature condition, and reduces and cleans NO<SB>2</SB>in the adsorbed NO<SB>x</SB>by reacting the NO<SB>2</SB>with suboxide of hydrocarbon as oxidation product of hydrocarbon. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
