<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-luminance, thin lighting device having high light availability. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting device comprises a plurality of units. Each unit includes a fluorescent lamp 71" and a light conducting plate 72". The light conducting plate 72" has an incident face 72a", a light output surface 72b" and a reflecting surface 73". The plurality of units are laminated obliquely so that the side surface of the light conducting plate 72" in one unit is adjacent to the reflecting surface 73" of the other unit, with the light output surfaces 72b" of the light guides 27" being a light-emitting surface.
