摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing device for a wheel capable of solving conflicting problems of weight reduction/miniaturization and high rigidity of the device. SOLUTION: In the bearing device for the wheel of a third generation structure, a rolling element on the outer side out of a double row rolling element is a ball 3, and a rolling element on the inner side is a tapered roller 4. The pitch circle diameter PCDi of the tapered roller on the inner side is set to be smaller than the pitch circle diameter PCDo of the ball 3 on the outer side. A conical recess 17 is formed in an end on the outer side of a hub ring 5. The depth of the recess 17 is determined in a vicinity of a groove bottom of an inner transfer face 5a of at least the hub ring 5. The wall thickness of the ball 3 in the direction of the contact angleαon the inner transfer face 5a is set to be in a range of 0.2-0.3 time the diameter at the part. The outer side of the hub ring 5 is formed so that a substantially uniform wall thickness is determined corresponding to the recess 17, and conflicting problems of weight reduction/miniaturization and high rigidity can be simultaneously solved.
