A device for adjusting the length of a manual transmission lever is provided to install a reciprocating rack interlocking with a pinion gear inside a lever, and engaging sills installed on the lever which selectively locks into engaging grooves mounted on the rack depending on the movement of the lever, for allowing the lever to shorten when placed in a neutral position while extending in length when shifted to other positions, thereby enhancing the appearance and operability of the manual lever. A device for adjusting the length of a manual transmission lever comprises a fixed gear(10) installed inside a manual transmission case, a driving gear(11) installed inside a lever(1) and interlocked with the fixed gear, a driven gear(13) installed a predetermined distance away from the driving gear and connected to the driving gear with a chain(12), a rack(15) interlocked with the driven gear and reciprocating up and down inside the lever, and sliding engaging sills(16) disposed on the lever and selectively coupling to the rack depending on the movement of the lever. A pinion gear(13) interlocks the driven gear with the rack. Engaging grooves(17) mounted on the rack allow the sliding engaging sills to lock into the grooves selectively depending on the movement of the lever.
