<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical receiver capable of facilitating optical axis alignment and attaining high speed optical communication by a narrow beam. <P>SOLUTION: A phosphor plate 22 whose surface is bonded with a phosphor 22a for emitting light by stimulation of infrared ray is located to a light receiving window for receiving an infrared ray signal light 16. The signal light 16 is transmitted through a circular window not coated with the phosphor. The signal light 16 is transmitted through the window and collected by a light receiving unit 26 such as a photodiode by a lens 24. The light receiving unit 26 converts the infrared ray signal light into an electric signal. A demodulation circuit 28 demodulates data from an output electric signal of the light receiving unit 26. A signal processing apparatus 30 detects the strength of the output electric signal from the light receiving unit 26 and displays the strength level on a screen of a display apparatus 32. Further, the signal processing apparatus 30 generates a digital acoustic signal for expressing the strength level of the output electric signal from the light receiving unit 26 in terms of the loudness or the strength of sound.
