A cooled insert for an injection mold, comprising an elongated body section (2) adjoining a shaft and/or head part, (a) is at least partially formed in a generative process by melting solidified metal powder and (b) has (at least in the elongated section) gas cooling channel(s) (4) a short distance behind the outer wall (6), having a non-circular cross-section and a smallest internal separation from the opposite internal walls of 1 mm or less. An independent claim is included for an injection molding machine incorporating an injection mold with a cooled mold insert and a connection to a compressed air generating compressor, where the compressed air connection is made to the gas channel (4) of a mold insert as above.
