A method and an apparatus for encoding a multi-view moving picture are provided to down-sample the multi-view moving picture and encode the down-sampled moving picture and then to improve a compression rate effectively. A subtracter(406) subtracts a pixel value of a reference image from a pixel value of an image to be currently encoded and generates a residual signal. A down-sampling unit(408) down-samples the residual signal and reduces resolution. An entropy coding unit(412) encodes the down-sampled residual signal.
