<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform observation device capable of observing the reflected wave from a measuring target without using a synchronous detection delay device. <P>SOLUTION: This waveform observation device is constituted by providing a transmitter 102 for repeatedly sending out a travelling wave at a predetermined cycle, a receiver 103 for receiving the reflected wave from the measuring target M and a reflected waveform observation means 104 for storing the amplitude value of the reflected wave at each time of the reception of the reflected wave and equipped with a relative speed detection means 106, a route change quantity calculation means 107 for calculating the route change quantity of the propagation route between the measuring target M and the receiver 103 on the basis of the relative speed at each time when the reflected wave is received by the receiver 103 and a sampling cycle calculation means 108 for calculating the sampling point interval of the reflected wave on the basis of the route change quantity calculated by the route change quantity calculation means 107.
