PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard carbon film which has a further reduced coefficient of friction, can be produced in a simple and easy process, and imposes few restrictions on types of a lubricant showing the effect. SOLUTION: A sliding member has the hard carbon film at least in a site sliding with an opposite material. The hard carbon film contains one or both of cobalt and nickel in a total amount of 1.4 to 39 atom%; and has aggregates of nickel and cobalt with a size exceeding 5 nm controlled to a fixed ratio or lower.
