PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of preventing quality of a read image from being deteriorated, by suppressing temperature rise of read glass by easily discharging heat generated from a light source to the outside of a casing without infiltrating dust or the like into the casing of the apparatus as an image reading apparatus including a reading function based on a document moving reading system. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus comprises a heat exhaust member 3 which is disposed in contact with or in proximity with reading glass 12 used for reading based on the document moving reading system, and includes a portion protruded from the surface of the reading glass and exposed at the outer side of a casing 10 and a portion exposed at the inner side of the relevant casing, the heat exhaust member 3 including a ventilation path 6 communicating a first opening 4 opened in a surface part (13c) other than a surface part (13a) facing a document before or after passing through the relevant reading glass out of the protruded portion with a second opening 5 opened in a portion exposed within the relevant casing.
