PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of an organic EL element with a cut end surface of a moisture-proof layer exposed therefrom by forming the moisture-proof layer and thereafter cutting and dividing an organic EL panel into a plurality of organic EL elements. SOLUTION: This organic EL element is structured such that at least a substrate, a first electrode, an organic EL layer, a second electrode, and the moisture-proof layer are stacked on one another, and the moisture-proof layer is formed up to the peripheral part of the substrate.
