PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera and a charging method by which charging is inexpensively and rapidly performed. SOLUTION: An inexpensive charging system is achieved by using the charging method in which a nearly ring-shaped permanent magnet is attached to the rotary shaft of a rotary type mode dial for switching an operation mode, so that the permanent magnet is rotated interlocked with the mode dial. A charging circuit is connected to a coil wound along the ring of the permanent magnet and a battery, so that the battery is charged with an induced current generated in the coil by the rotation of the mode dial. Since operation to turn the mode dial in such a state that the camera is held is comparatively easy, charging is rapidly performed even when the battery is dead in a shutter chance.
