PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dot halftone image formation method and a dot halftone image forming apparatus improving color reproductivity for a color proof by simple operation, and creating a colorproof corresponding to feeling of roughness on a printing paper used for actual printing. SOLUTION: The dot halftone image formation method comprises the steps of: applying colorimetric to a first output object to be outputted using a first halftone image; computing a color value of dot 100% corresponding to the first output object, based on the colorimetric result; computing a dot gain table corresponding to the first output object based on the colorimetric result; using the dot gain table from the first halftone image to obtain an intermediate image of a second dot halftone image; and changing color tone of a boundary pixel located at an inner edge side of a dot boundary in the intermediate image, according to change probability defined for each pixel located at the dot boundary.
