PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting a fault in a management terminal by which a management terminal candidate confirms a state of each terminal and detects the occurrence of a fault in the management terminal on the basis of a result of the confirmation in a network where direct communication is available among the terminals. SOLUTION: The management terminal 101, in a normal time, periodically transmits participation terminal information including information of communication terminals taking part in the network 100 to the communication terminals 102 to 104 including the management terminal candidate 103. When the management terminal candidate 103 cannot receive the participation terminal information periodically transmitted from the management terminal 101 for a prescribed time or over, the management terminal candidate 103 makes direct communication with the communication terminals 102, 104 other than its own terminal taking part in the network 100, confirms whether or not the communication terminals 10, 104 can normally receive the participation terminal information, and detects the fault caused in the management terminal 101 on the basis of a result of the confirmation.
