The invention provides a novel thermoplastic resin composition capable of exhibiting high impact resistance which composition contains an impact modifier which is excellent in dispersibility and can be isolated as resin powder without caking or agglomeration and a process for the production of the composition. A thermoplastic resin composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin (a) and 0.5 to 20 parts by weight of a graft copolymer (b) consisting of a butadiene rubber polymer and a hard shell, characterized by further containing 0.01 to 3.0 parts by weight of a water-soluble polymer (c) having a property of forming a physical gel and 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of a processing aid (d) per 100 parts by weight of the graft copolymer (b); and a process for the production of the composition.
