An air conditioner and a method of controlling the same are provided to perform linear control of the rpm of a motor which blows air to rooms depending on the number of opened dampers of each room, so that the blow amount and temperature desired for each room can be satisfied effectively. An air conditioner comprises at least one blower unit, a body(10), a duct(200,300), a plurality of dampers(400a~400d), and an electric unit. Each blower unit installed in the body has a motor to blow air to a plurality of rooms respectively. The duct connects each room with the body, having the damper which controls the amount of air supplied to each room from the duct. The electric part controls the operation of the blower unit or damper. A method of controlling the air conditioner is characterized in that the RPM of the motor is controlled by at least one of the number of opened dampers or the opening degree of the opened damper, to realize the predetermined blow amount, when a predetermined blow amount is input from at least one of the rooms.
