PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbon black having extremely improved dispersibility into aqueous dispersive medium while keeping excellent properties such as blackness, heat resistance, water resistance, etc., by adding a phenolic compound having a hydrophilic functional group to carbon black. SOLUTION: This carbon black is obtained by adding a phenolic compound having a hydrophilic functional group. As a raw carbon black, usually available furnace black, channel black, etc., can be used. As the phenolic compound, hydroxybenzoic acids or hydroxybenzene-sulfonic acids are preferably used from a point of view of reactivity with carbon black and dispersibility. The objective carbon black can be obtained by reacting carbon black with the phenolic compound in an aqueous solvent and in the presence of a radical initiator by heating, irradiating it with a light or using a reducer. Preferably, 50-100 pts.wt. of the phenolic compound is used to 100 pts.wt. of the carbon black. |
