A plug in registration method and an apparatus for push content delivery are provided to add applications and content providers without changing architecture. A method for registering an application with a general push client(510) includes the steps of: receiving application manifest from the application; matching the application based on the application manifest with a content type; setting an environment for the application based on the content type; modifying a push proxy(410) of the general application setting; requesting a service catalogue from the push proxy; receiving a service catalogue from the push proxy; and receiving channel metadata from a channel between the application and a content provider from the push proxy.
