An array substrate and a method for fabricating the same are provided to reduce secondary capacitance generated between data lines and common electrodes, reduce the number of processes while preventing lowering of the picture quality, and realize a uniform rubbing process by improving flatness of the array substrate. An array substrate includes a substrate(100). Gate lines are formed on the substrate. Data lines(141) cross the gate lines for defining a pixel area. Common electrodes(114) are formed at the pixel area, branched into a plurality of common electrodes. Pixel electrodes(160) are formed at the pixel area, alternately with the common electrodes. Trenches(T) are placed on the gate lines between the data lines and the common electrodes for reducing parasitic capacitance between the data lines and the common electrodes. |
