A system and a method for providing a menu list are provided to allow the user to search easily a menu by previously checking a lower menu although a menu with a low connectivity is displayed on a limited screen. A contents provider(100) provides a hierarchical menu list including multiple stages for providing certain contents to a mobile terminal(300). A menu list providing server(200) stores the hierarchical menu list received from the contents providing server, reads a menu list of a particular stage and a sub-menu list corresponding to a select item of the menu list of the particular stage according to a request from the mobile terminal, and provides them to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal displays the received menu list of the particular stage and the sub-menu list corresponding to the select item of the menu list of the particular stage on the same screen.
