An image display device and a method for controlling the same are provided to search for a time point accurately by arbitrarily setting the time unit, by which an instant movement function of the recording is performed. A setting unit arbitrarily sets the time unit, by which an instant movement function of a recording is performed. An inputting unit inputs a signal for performing the instant movement function. A controller(104) performs the instant movement function according to the arbitrarily set time unit. The instant movement function includes a drag and play function. The setting unit sets the time unit by an hour, or by the value which is obtained by dividing a total running time of the recording by a specific value.
