[Also in Group XXVIII] The outer casing of a push-pull cable comprises a series of long-lay helically wound round wires 10 held by an outer short-lay helically wound metal strip 11 which in manufacture is swaged against the wires 10, the grooves between the wires 10 forming helical tracks for balls 19 engaging the push-pull core element 17. Each ball 19 is mounted in a radial opening in a cage 23 comprising a short length of tubing, the cages abutting each other along most of the length of the cable. An end cap 15 is threaded on a collar 14 crimped about the strip 11. In a modification the cages are spaced by a selfsupporting resilient helical wire 30, Fig. 4, threaded loosely through the cages.</p> |
