A conical tool shank 12a has a transverse pin 13 which co-operates with a rotary member 18 to force the shank into a co-operating socket 11, the conical angle being large. The ring 18 has cam surfaces which, on rotation of the ring, engage balls 17 which wedge beneath inclined surfaces on the pin 13 and force the shank into the socket. The side ends of the pin are flattened to act as drivers. The pin is retained in the shank by a ball 15. In a modification, when relative rotation occurs between the shank and socket, the pin 23, Fig. 4, rides up an inclined cam surface 21e on the socket. |
