A water softener is provided to prevent damages of a water softening tank and an ion exchange resin due to a static pressure in the water softening tank by emptying an inner part of the water softening tank when the water softener is not used, and minimize inconvenience of a user by automatically supplying water, that has not been softened, to an outlet even during regeneration of the ion exchange resin. A water softener(10) comprises: a water softening tank(18) comprising an ion exchange resin that converts raw water into soft water; a drain outlet for discharging water in the water softening tank; a first feeding line(48) for feeding the raw water from an inlet(44) into the water softening tank; a first valve(36) installed on the first feeding line to control whether or not the first feeding line is communicated; a second feeding line(50) for feeding the raw water to an outlet(72) without passing through the water softening tank; a second valve(34) installed on the second feeding line to control whether or not the second feeding line is communicated; a regeneration tank(12) for supplying a regenerating solution into the water softening tank during a regenerating operation; a flow meter(24) for sensing whether raw water is supplied into the water softening tank or not; and a controller for closing the first valve, opening the second valve, and discharging water in the water softening tank through the drain outlet in the case wherein it is judged based on a signal of the flow meter that raw water is not supplied to the water softener. |
