A method for restoring a hydrogenation catalyst and a method for preparing hydrogen peroxide containing the hydrogenation catalyst are provided to restore selectivity and activity of the hydrogenation catalyst without damaging the strength of the hydrogenation catalyst. Hydrogen peroxide is prepared through an anthraquinone type by performing a reducing process and a catalyst restoring process. For performing the catalyst restoring process, firstly, a hydrogenation catalyst is treated with a first alkaline solution of more than pH 10 so that a catalyst immersion liquid, where pure water of 5 wt% is mixed into the hydrogen catalyst after restoration of 1 wt%, has a pH of 8.0 or more. The treated hydrogenation catalyst is cleaned by water or a second alkaline solution having a lower alkalinity than the first alkaline solution.
