A torque converter for hybrid electric vehicles is provided to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle by selectively using a motor and/or engine as a driving source of the vehicle. A stator(6) is interposed between an impeller(3) and a turbine(5) to change a flow of oil discharged from the turbine towards the impeller. A lockup clutch(13) is coupled to the turbine to directly transfer the driving force to the turbine from an engine. An engine power interrupting clutch(7) is coupled to one side of the turbine to interrupt the power of the engine which is transmitted from the turbine or to transmit the power to an input shaft(11) of a transmission. The engine power interrupting clutch is coupled to a spline hub(14) which is splined with the input shaft of the transmission. A piston(23) of the lockup clutch is connected to an outer periphery of a piston hub located around the periphery of the spline hub.
