The invention relates to a device (20) for singling out individual articles from a flow of articles that are transported on a transport device. Said device (20) has a singling out element (22) that can be extended and retract ed and that is driven by a reciprocating or oscillating drive unit via a transmission (26, 28, 30, 32, 34). Said device can be timely controlled in order to give articles to be singled out a transversal impetus so that they glide from the transport device (11) in a direction transversal to the direction of transport. The singling out element (22) produces a complete extending and retracting movement in a single to movement or fro movement or oscillation. The reciprocating drive unit can be configured as a pneumatic cylinder (42) and the transmission that transmits the piston movement to the singling out element (22) can be configured as a crank mechanism (26, 28, 30 , 32, 34) or a bell crank lever.
