A side bar in an automobile is provided to allow for ease of manufacture and reduce manufacturing costs by injection molding a pair of joining portions and a mating portion into a single body from thermoplastic material and joining a cover plate to the mating portion. A side bar includes a pair of joining portions(12a,12b) bolted to a vehicle top surface, and a mating portion(14) for interconnecting the joining portions. The side bar is fastened in parallel to a vehicle. The joining portions and the mating portion are injection molded into a single body from thermoplastic material. The mating portion has one open side assembled to a cover plate. The mating portion is equipped with a strength reinforcement member inserted therein.
