A lens driving system for an auto focus and a control method therefor are provided to control the auto focus finely without adopting a carrier. An initial position of a lens barrel(110) is determined as a certain minus setting position. An actuator(120) moves the lens barrel(110). An image sensor(140) converts an optical signal received through the lens barrel(110) into an electric signal. A control unit(160) controls the actuator(120) to locate the lens barrel(110) in an optimum focus position among a plurality of focus positions on the basis of the signal received from the image sensor(140) while the lens barrel(110) moves from the minus setting position to a certain position.
