The Support structure (2) for poultry comprises at least one floor (3) supported by a frame (5) and freely accessible to birds (4), with a grid structure (6,7) which permits discharge of excrement (12). Beneath the floor is an endless conveyor belt (8,9), of which the upper part (10,11) is located under the floor surface, with an air-permeable and excrement impermeable conveyor belt. Screening devices provide airtight protection of the intermediate space between the upper and lower parts (10,11,13,14). Suction equipment produces a pressure difference between that in the intermediate space and the air surrounding the support structure.
