Production of L-amino acids (I) by growing a (I)-producing microorganism (A) that uses the Entner-Dourdoroff pathway for methanol metabolism so that (I) accumulates in, and is recovered from, the culture medium. Production of L-amino acids (I) by growing a (I)-producing microorganism (A) that uses the Entner-Dourdoroff (ED) pathway for methanol metabolism so that (I) accumulates in, and is recovered from, the culture medium. The new feature is that activity of 6-phosphogluconate dehydratase (EDD) and/or 2-keto-3-deoxy-6- phosphogluconate aldolase (EDA) is increased and (I) is an amino acid produced by a biosynthetic pathway that uses pyruvic acid as intermediate. Independent claims are also included for: (1) methanol-utilizing bacteria (A') that use the ED pathway and have increased activity of EDD and/or EDA; and (2) producing (I) by culturing (A'). |
