940,930. Washing gases. LODGE - COTTERELL Ltd. May 2, 1962 [May 30, 1961], No. 19412/61. Heading B1R. A gas scrubber, e.g. for gases from a blast furnace, comprises a gas conduit, adjustable means 13 in the conduit operable to maintain a constant volume of gas flowing therethrough independently of the gas pressure, and means, e.g. spray nozzles, for directing a diffused flow of liquid into the gas flow at or adjacent the means 13. The means 13 is a manually controlled damper located in the throat 12 of a Venturi 11, the nozzles, e.g. four in number, being supplied by pipes 18 with water, or a chemical liquor, or an aqueous solution, e.g. of ammonia, from a header 19. An annular space 14 about the damper 13 is of such area that the pressure drop at maximum gas flow is less than the maximum working pressure in the blast furnace.
|
