A deblocking filtering method for reducing the capacity of an internal memory and an image processing apparatus using the method are provided to perform deblocking filtering although the internal memory of low capacity is composed by reducing a reference region stored in the internal memory. A deblock filter(210) performs deblocking filtering by a macro block unit. A control unit(220) sets the first to the nth macro block groups, having at least one or more macro blocks, adjacently located in a column direction and controls the deblock filter(210) to perform the deblocking filtering of the first to the nth macro block groups successively.
